Van Driver

Making a Difference to Maidstone (MADM) is a Christian charity supporting the homeless, those in addiction, socially isolated, disadvantaged and in crisis in the Maidstone area.

MADM is expanding and now consists of a large charity shop and warehouse on the High Street. In Church Street the charity has an Outreach Centre, ‘King’s Pantry’ food bank and offices, along with the ‘Living Word’ Christian book shop.

Due to MADM’s continual growth and future vision/expansion we hold a very flexible approach to those joining our employment and primarily are looking for a multi-skilled applicant to help with the smooth running of the charity and help shape MADM’s growth.

This role will be based at 48 Church Street but will involve collections and drops in the MADM van, with the assistance of van mates to and from our High Street premises and other locations in Maidstone.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • * A clean driving licence (essential)
  • * A good knowledge of Maidstone
  • * Physically fit and capable of heavy lifting
  • * Reliable, respectful, trustworthy and a team player
  • * A good communicator with customer service skills
  • * It is essential that candidates fully respect the Christian ethos of the charity

The role includes:

  • * Helping with the coordination and collection of furniture donations, the delivery of items sold in the shop,as well as outreach furniture, and the collection of food and bulky donations

Salary negotiable depending on experience.

We see this as a full-time position to include van operations but, for the right applicant it might be a part-time role. A fuller description is available on application.

Finance Manager

MADM is looking for a new Finance Manager to be part of the management team guiding it through the next phase of its development.


  • * MADM is a small but fast-growing charity - turnover is heading towards £400k pa.
    • * It has diverse operations and fundraising; it is VAT & PAYE registered.
    • * It is a limited company as well as being a registered charity and so governed by both Company & Charity Law.
    • * It needs a proactive, hands-on finance manager appropriate to these circumstances.
    • * The Roll is office based for 2-3 days a week.
    • * The Finance manager reports to the Founder & has responsibility for one part-time assistant who is responsible for cashbook maintenance & admin tasks.
    • * It's a hands-on roll and the post holder is expected to show leadership, have a flexible approach to their employment & be an advocate for the charity.
    • * The Post holder is required to work closely with a wider team in managing the core administration function of the organisation & facilities from which it operates.

    Job Summary:

    The Finance Manager's responsibility is to provide managers & Trustee's with the necessary financial information on which to make timely decisions.

    • * Ensure an appropriate control environment is in place to provide the financial information, meet regulatory requirements and protect MADM's financial & other resources.
    • * Maintain the accounting software (Quickbooks online) for both management and statutory reporting, Process the payroll and prepare quarterly VAT returns to meet all relevent deadlines. They will liase externally as necessary.

      The Person we are looking for:

      • * The candidate will have prior experience in a similar financial and management role; knowledge of HR/payroll is desirable
      • * A suitable qualification would be helpful

      Strong IT skills are essential (Quickbooks experience would be useful)

      • * The right person will:
      •   **have experience of financial management, well run administrative systems and a proven ability to both motivate and be a part of effective teams.
      •   **possess excellent communication and organisational skills and be proactive and solution focussed
      •   **want to contribute to the charity and show compassion to those it helps
      •   **be comfortable in an organisation with strong Christian values.

        Van Mates

        This is either a full time or a part time position, depending on the candidate. Assisting with the van driver, as above, including helping in the warehouse and other areas of the charity where deemed necessary.
